Karen (Ford) Weeks

Karen Ford Weeks, 69, of Lake City, SC, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on February 11, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina to Frances R. Ford and Albert Ford, Karen moved to Florida at the age of 4, and grew up in New Smyrna Beach. After graduation from New Smyrna Beach High School in 1967, she was admitted to Sullins College, in Bristol, Virginia, graduating in 1969. She then entered the University of South Carolina, where she became a diehard Gamecocks fan, and in 1972 earned a Bachelor's degree in Education. She taught at Florence County School District 3, Lake City Primary & Elementary School for Lake City, South Carolina and retired in 2006. She was respected by the many children she taught for over 30 years. After her retirement she enjoyed a secondary career in retail fashion at Bold & Sassy Boutique in Lake City, where she worked with friends Iris Bryant and Marie Steele. Karen met the love of her life, Anthony Weeks, in 1992 at a dance studio and they became dance partners for the next 10 years and married in 2002. Karen, or “Kayren” as she was affectionately called, and Anthony were shaggers at the Florence Shag Club, and frequently danced at Myrtle Beach. They enjoyed a 27 year relationship and 17 year marriage. Karen had many lifelong friends from her hometown in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, as well as Lake City, South Carolina, many for more than 50 years including traveling companions Dana and Nancy. Karen was admired for her generosity of spirit, quick wit, steely resolve and infectious humor. She was adored by her children and grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Ga.”

Survivors include her husband Ray Anthony Weeks of Lake City, SC; son David Allen (Christa) Brown, Jr., Dillon, SC; daughter Audra Brown (David) Linfert of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Raegan Lane, Seth Lane, Olivia Linfert, Ainslie Linfert, and Amelia Linfert; and sister Teri Ford Brown of New Smyrna Beach, FL.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel with private burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park.

Following private burial, the family will receive visitors at the Lake City Country Club, where lunch will be provided
