Mr. Carson Martin, 97, devoted husband of Gaynelle M. Martin, went to be with his Lord on Monday, November 18, 2019.
A Celebration of his life will be held @ 2:00 PM, Friday, November 22, 2019, at Lake City United Methodist Church, with burial in Lake City Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, prior to the funeral services.
He was born on July 15, 1922 in Danville, Virginia. He was the third son of Henry Clay Martin and Blanche Clements Martin.
After serving his country in the United States Marine Corp., he worked in Norfolk, Virginia on the loading docks and eventually became a sales representative for Nabisco. His career with Nabisco brought him to South Carolina in 1956. After retiring with a multicounty route, he sold products in many grocery stores, general stores and industries. At the age of 62, he began his most meaningful job as custodian/ambassador of his church, LCUM and worked until he was 90. His ministry to others included delivering "Meals on Wheels", weekly visits to the nursing home to play his harmonica for hymn time and providing a helping hand from his humble heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold C. Martin and Irvin D. Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Gaynelle M. Martin of Lake City; two daughters, Cheryl (Tim) Symons of Oxfordshire, UK and Lisa (Jamie) DuRant of Lake City; four grandchildren, Danny (Nancy) Martin, Christin (Reamer) Bushardt, Leslie M. Martin and Elisabeth M. DuRant; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann Motley of Danville, Virginia and Lois M. Roberts of Edgefield, SC; and his ever faithful "next-door neighbor-family" of 29 years, Mrs. Lurlise Eaddy and her children.
