William Hoyt "Slick" Poston, 99, husband of the late Fleedy McCutcheon Poston, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton, with burial to follow at St. John Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Hannah.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 13, 2018, prior to the services at the funeral home.
Hoyt was born on April 27, 1919 in Florence County, son of the late Fenton Hoyt "Buck" Poston and Leola McElveen Poston. He received his education in Hannah schools. Hoyt was a talented and gifted musician/singer whose musical career spanned more than 75 years. He also farmed and worked as a museum proprietor. Hoyt was a genealogist and published two books on the Evans and Poston families. He attended St. John Free Will Baptist Church, was a member of The Ole Timers Band, The Pee-Dee Blue Grass Association, The Three River Historical Society, and the Hannah Masonic Lodge #298.
Surviving are his daughters, Janice P. (James) Woodberry of Lake City, SC and Landa P. (Willie) Wise of Pamplico, SC; seven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Poston was preceded in death by an infant son, William H. Poston, Jr.; daughter, Miriam P. McKnight; brothers, Mendel, Carl and Dorris Poston; and sisters, Bernice Powell and Louise Gaskins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Commander Nursing Center, Florence and McLeod Hospice House, Florence, for their care and compassion during his illness, as well as all the family and friends for their prayers and love.
