Mr. Archie Powell, Jr., 84, of Poston Corner, entered into his heavenly home, Thursday, March 6, 2025, at his home after an illness.
Mr. Powell was born on September 16, 1940, in Florence County, son of the late James Archie Powell and Rena Bell Powell. Mr. Powell, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, spent 65 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Phyllis Poston Powell. Their bond was a testament to unwavering commitment and deep affection. A man of quiet strength, he dedicated his life to providing for his family, working tirelessly on the farm with a passion that ran as deep as the soil he worked. Farming was not just his livelihood; it was his heart's calling, and every seed he planted and every harvest he reaped reflected his love for the land and his family. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—card games with loved ones, the tranquility of the mountains, and the soothing sounds of bluegrass and country music. Above all, it was the love for Phyllis and their family that defined him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife, Phyllis Poston Powell of Poston Corner, are their cherished children, Derrell (Donna) Powell of Poston Corner and Desi (Shane) Grainger of Florence; grandchildren, Cody (Megan) Powell of Johnsonville, Meagan (Tommy) Mattis of Florence, Rachael (Sims) Boyd of Florence and AJ Hart of Florence; seven (7) great grandchildren; siblings, Bruster (Judy) Powell, Fannie Poston, James Allen (Betty) Powell and Billie Faye Ford; sister-in-law, Eunice (Malcolm) Powell; among lots of nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Powell and Malcom Powell; step-father, Purvis McAllister; brother-in-law, Billy Poston.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Mill Branch Free Will Baptist Church, Poston Corner.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Mill Branch Free Will Baptist Church, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
