Mrs. Betty Jo Caraway Anderson, 93, wife of the late Colon Anderson, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024, at the home of her daughter in Sumter.
Mrs. Anderson was born on September 26, 1931, in Coward, daughter of the late Luther James Caraway and Emmie McClam Caraway. She made her home in Sumter for over 6 years. Prior to moving to Sumter to live with her daughter, she lived in Coward, where she raised her family. Mrs. Anderson was a founding member of The Bible Temple Church in Coward. She fought many battles of several types of cancer starting at the age of 42. Mrs. Anderson loved to travel and visited over 30 states and countries including, Alaska, Novia Scotia, Newfoundland and Israel which was her favorite. She enjoyed sewing and making log cabin quilts and bedspreads, she also made her children’s clothes.
Surviving are her daughters, Janice Comer of Sumter, Jolane (Johnny) Young of Darlington and Jean Anderson of Beech Island; grandchildren, Tina Barkley, Tracy Spring, Lacie (David) Ward and T.J. Matthews; great grandchildren, Brittani Evans, Addisyn Farmer, Bridget Barkley, Briana Barkley, Lindsey Ward, Malery (Clint) Glaze, Cadence Matthews and River Matthews; 6 great-great grandchildren; brother, Gerald “Jerry” (Carol) Carroway of Florence; sister-in-law, Cyndy Caraway of Coward; brothers-in-law, Leo Winesett and Ray Jordan.
Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Colon Anderson; parents, Luther & Emmie Caraway; son, Tommy Anderson, who passed away at age 3 with polio; brothers Harvey Caraway, Donnie Caraway and Dale Caraway; sisters, Carolyn Odom, Joyce Jordan and Patsy Winesett,
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at The Bible Temple.
A Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at The Bible Temple in Coward.
Burial will be Private.
