Mrs. Betty White Altman, 92, of Lake City, wife of the late Marshall Ray Altman, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. She was at home surrounded by her entire family.
Mrs. Altman was born on December 6, 1931, in Hannah, South Carolina, daughter of the late Claude Richardson White and Sudie Collins White. She was a faithful member of Lake City First Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class, the Women’s Missionary Union and the DMA Church Group. Mrs. Altman was the bookkeeper at Marshall’s Marine for over 50 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and a recipient of the Steel Magnolia Award. Mrs. Altman enjoyed gardening, baking pound cakes and cooking collards, which were her specialties, for her family and her friends. She enjoyed riding her tricycle with her grandchildren and spending time with her family and friends at the beach. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trip to Ireland with Betty Graham.
Surviving are her sons, Steve (Deborah) Altman of Lake City and Stewart (Joan) Altman of Murrells Inlet; daughter-in-law, Celeste Altman of Lake City; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Altman was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Marshall Ray Altman; son, Marshall (Celeste) Altman “Jr.” and great grandson, Warren Briley Altman. She was the youngest and last surviving of 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and “Sallie’s Girls” for their love and care at her home.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Lake City First Baptist Church in the Family Life Center.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Lake City First Baptist Church. Burial will be Private.
