Caleb "C.G." George Welch, Sr.

Caleb George "C.G." Welch, Sr., 73, husband of Nettie Welch, died Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center.

Mr. Welch was born on February 7, 1948 in Clarendon County, son of the late J Hugh Welch and Effie Viola Welch. He was a member of Maranatha Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a former Sunday School teacher, Deacon, member of the Men’s Fellowship, Musician for the church and deeply loved his church family. Mr. Welch retired from SCDOT and was well known around the community for singing with his sisters, in the gospel group, known as “The Welch Family”.

Surviving are his wife, Nettie Floyd Spring Welch of Lake City; children, Tonya (Elvin) Rogers  of Turbeville, Caleb “Casey” (Kathy) Welch, Jr. of New Zion, Hope Cross and Eric Welch, both of Turbeville, Cindy (Ken) Lundkovsky of Lexington and Jennie Spring (Frank Rettich) McCreary of Savannah, GA; sisters, Dorothy Nell Bennett of Turbeville, Ethel Dell Calcutt of Florida, Violeta (Buddy) Yarborough of Effingham, Connie (Carroll) Feagin, Rounett (Lloyd) McElveen and Diane Beard, all of Turbeville; brothers, Clifton (Diane) Welch of Turbeville and A. J. Welch of Scranton; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; number of special nieces and nephews.

Mr. Welch was preceded in death by his sisters, Lou Dell Bennett and Idella Welch Matthews; and his brother, Calvin Welch.

Funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Friday, April 16, 2021 at Maranatha Pentecostal Holiness Church, Turbeville. Burial, directed by Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton, will follow at Pine Dale Cemetery, Turbeville.

The family will receive friends at 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Friday, April 16, 2021 at Maranatha Pentecostal Holiness Church, Turbeville.
