Mrs. Carolyn Keith Humphrey, 79, widow of the late Richard Lorraine Humphrey, of Lake City, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center.
Mrs. Humphrey was born on January 8, 1946, in Florence County, daughter of the late Maxie Benjamin Keith and Mary Dennis Haselden. She was a graduate of Lake City High School and worked as a Cosmetologist, then later worked as a home health caregiver.
Mrs. Humphrey was a member of Scranton United Methodist Church for 25 plus years, VFW Auxiliary, along with serving on several committees, including President of UMW, Chairman of Worship Committee and Chairman of Nurture Committee. Deeply devoted to her church family, Carolyn’s dedication to serving left an enduring mark on the hearts of those she touched.
Carolyn’s love for cooking, especially her adventurous spirit in trying new recipes from her favorite cooking shows, filled her kitchen with warmth and delicious aromas. Her legendary pot of spaghetti, a dish we will always remember and crave, was a testament to her generous spirit.
She cherished the time spent with her nieces and nephews, never hesitating to brag about how they all, in some way, took after her. As a member of the Red Hat Society, Carolyn also found joy in sharing lunches and laughter with her friends. The Lake City Community Senior Center held a special place in her heart, where she spent many happy days painting, crafting, and enjoying the company of her friends.
Surviving are her siblings, Shelby Keith Kirby and Denise (Glen) Ruthven, both of Lake City; sister-in-law, Margie H. Gray; brother-in-law, Delano James of Coward; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mrs. Humphrey was preceded in death by her siblings, Maxine Keith Jowers, Maxie Benjamin Keith, Jr. and Deloris James; step-father, Eugene Haselden; brothers-in-law, LaRue Kirby, Dewey Jowers, Jean Gray, Ernest Bowman, Lewis Smith and Victor Smith; sisters-in-law, Betsy Smith, Nell Smith, Joy Bowman and Margaret Burrows.
The family will receive friends 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Scranton United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Scranton United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at High Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Scranton UMC, 201 E. Main Street, Scranton, SC 29591.
