Mrs. Catherine Ann “Cathy” Cone Matthews, 75, of Scranton, wife of the late Marion O’Neal Matthews, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence.
Mrs. Matthews was born on August 25, 1950, in Indiana, daughter of the late Francis Leslie Cone and Dorothy Ogden Cone. Mrs. Matthews was a graduate of Goose Creek High School and later attended Palmer Business School. She retired from Blue Cross & Blue Shield after many years of dedicated service.
Mrs. Matthews was a faithful and devoted member of Lee’s Tabernacle, where her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived and served others. She faithfully worked in her church for many years as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Known as a dedicated and hardworking servant, she willingly gave her time and energy to support the ministry and encourage those around her. Her strong faith guided her life, and she found great joy in serving the Lord and her church family.
Mrs. Matthews also enjoyed crafts and was known as a caring and giving person who always looked for ways to help others.
Surviving are her children, Stacey Ann (Jimmy) McDaniel of Scranton, Kenneth O’Neal “Kenny” (Lisa) Matthews of Scranton, Wanda Lynn (Randy) Cook of Scranton and Brian Eric (Danielle) Matthews of Florence; grandchildren, Christian (Elexus) Matthews, Matthew (Jazmine) Hall, Brooke (Fabian) Lewis, Jacob (Bradleigh) Hall, Hunter Matthews, Chase Matthews, Gavin Hayes and Daegan Cupp; great grandchildren, Lyric, Analayah, Camren, and Amariah; siblings, Raymond “Buddy” (Cindy) Cone, Sherie (Robert) Banks, Michael Cone and Jeffrey (Glory) Cone; best friend, Sarah Brooks.
Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her grandson, Brandon Barr and her sister, Jan Kotowski.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Carolina Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, March 13, 2026, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park.
