Charles "Buddy" Matthews, 71, died Monday, November 16, 2020, at his residence.
Mr. Matthews was born on September 16, 1949 in Florence County, son of the late William Rudolph Matthews and Carinel Miles Matthews. He was part owner of Ayers Manufacturing, working in the sewing and textile industry most of his life as a mechanic. After retirement he helped with farming operations with his son-in-law. Buddy enjoyed fishing, river racing and boats. He had a passion for Corvettes and kept one most of his life. Buddy also enjoyed watching NASCAR and drag racing on television and he especially enjoyed TV westerns.
Surviving are his daughter, Shannon (Richard) Ham of Coward; son, Denton Matthews of Charleston; grandchildren, Carson Ham and Ella Ham, both of Coward; nieces and nephews, Sandy Rauch, Scotty Lee, Candy Morris, Bradley Matthews and Cameron Matthews; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his sister, Helen "Fluggie" Humphries; brothers, Carol "Mutt" Matthews and Wilbur Rudolph "Pee Wee" Matthews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sandy Rauch, Sherry McElveen, Doris Robinson, Lanisha Coletrain and Renae Herring who gave their love and support along with exceptional care for the last few years.
Graveside services will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Matthews Cemetery, Coward.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton.
