Clara Virginia Brown Steele, 94, wife of the late CWO2 (DV) Olson Rudolph "Dusty" Steele, died Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at her home.
Mrs. Steele was born on March 14, 1926 in Martin's Ferry, Ohio, daughter of the late George Charles Brown and Mary Theo Courtwright Brown. She attended Business school. Mrs. Steele had many different roles in her lifetime, she worked with Travelers Insurance Company in Washington, DC, was the Secretary/Treasurer for The Artisan, a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She was the oldest member of New Zion Baptist Church, Sunday School Teacher and former Church Treasurer/Secretary. Clara was a Military Wife for 22 ½ years, along with being a lifelong member of the Retired Military Officers Association, WMU.
Surviving are her children, Robert A. (Marilyn) Steele of Hartsville and Linda S. (Robert) May of Scranton; grandchildren, Allen D. (Tara) Steele of Darlington, Linzie S. (Greg) Batchelor of Florence, Andrew P. (Lana) Myers of Arkansas, Justin R. Parker of Texas, Rick (Nelly) Johnson of Virginia, Jeff (Alexsandra) Johnson of California and Lisa (Kevin) Sheady of Scranton; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Lulu Lopreste and Shirley Yankchak, both of West Virginia, Barbara Snyder of Ohio; brother-in-love, Benjamin L. (Margie) Steele of Kingstree and daughter-in-love, Mildred Steele of Scranton.
Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her husband, Olson Rudolph "Dusty" Steele; son, John E. Steele; great grandson, Franklin Myers Steele; sisters, Dorothy Habermehl, Evelyn Fishow, Elsie Conaway, Joan Nobile; brother, Charles Brown and brother-in-love, Garland (Rudy) Steele.
Graveside services will be private Friday, July 24, 2020, at Florence National Cemetery, Florence.
Due to Covid-19, the family has no scheduled visitation at this time. Phone calls and cards are appreciated.
