Mr. Curtis David Filyaw, 89, husband of Emaline Anderson Melton Filyaw, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Mr. Filyaw was born on September 12, 1933, in Cades, son of the late William Matthew Filyaw and Ruby Conyers Filyaw. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and retired as a security guard. Mr. Filyaw enjoyed fishing, horse racing, crossword puzzles and traveling. He was free spirited and had a kind and gentle soul.
Surviving are his wife, Emaline Melton Filyaw of Lake City; step son, Pete (Valerie) Melton of Scranton; step daughters, Shirley DeHay and Judi Coker, both of Lake City, Shannon Coker of Cades; brother, John Filyaw of Savannah; a number of grandchildren, including Savannah (Michael) Flowers of Lake City; a number of great grandchildren; and extended family members.
Mr. Filyaw was preceded in death by his step children, Ronnie Melton, Bobby “Fuzzy” Melton, Kenneth Melton; brothers, Wilbur Filyaw, Wesley Filyaw, Delos Filyaw; sister, Celesta Mims McCutcheon; step sons-in-law, Rob Coker and Vince Coker.
