Mr. Edd "Bug" Poston, 84, of Pamplico, husband of Mary Wise Poston, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025, at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center after an illness.
Edd was born on December 17, 1940, in the Poston Corner Community of Florence County, son of the late Francis Edd Poston, Sr. and Rhoda McConnie Richardson Poston. Edd dedicated his life to serving others through his work, his faith, and most of all his family. His early years were spent engaged in the family farm and attending Hannah School. His work career began at Wentworth Manufacturing Company in Lake City, until the plant closed in 1976. He then worked with Jack’s Transmission & Marine in Lake City as a Salesman for 6 years. Looking for a new career led him to employment at E. I. DuPont Company in Florence where he worked a long and respected career of 23 years, retiring as a technician. His leadership and commitment left a lasting impression on many people. A man known for his outgoing and friendly personality, he treasured time with his family and extended family, including Church Family, finding great joy in their presence. His greatest joy was fishing. For many years, he was involved with Hannah - Salem -Friendfield Volunteer Fire Department, always offering his help and never seeking recognition. Edd was a faithful lifetime member of New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church and served willingly in various positions as needed. He lived a life deeply rooted in his community and will be fondly remembered as the person that cooked the best “chicken Bog”, the best pork bar-b-que, the best fish fry, and Tea cakes, all with sincere hospitality, friendliness, warmth, humor and satisfaction in knowing he was serving his fellow man. A servant’s heart, Edd would cook willingly for special occasions, such as church socials, fund raisers, weddings, family reunions. If asked to do it he would always say “yes”. Locally he made famous his Poston’s Old time Bar-B-Que Sauce, his Original Family Recipe, for which people would pre-order year-round for special events and especially holidays. Edd will be thoughtfully remembered down through the generations for his natural gift of love, serving mankind and serving his God faithfully every day.
