Mr. Elijah Byrd, 91, of Coward, husband of Nell Horne Byrd, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at The Palms at Florence.
Mr. Byrd was born on June 3, 1933, in Florence County, son of the late Capers Byrd and Louise McKnight Byrd. He attended Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church until his health declined. Mr. Byrd was one who worked all the time, loved to plant in his garden and made church his top priority.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 70 years, Nell Horne Byrd, are his children, Altheria Jean (Dennis) Price, Jerry Byrd and Terry (Rhonda) Byrd; 14 grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren; adopted sister, Elaine (Marion) Eaddy.
Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his sons, Alva Lynn Byrd and Mickey Byrd; grandchildren, Jody Price and Kelvin Price; great grandchild, Jacoby Byrd; great-great grandchild, Timothy J’allen Stewart; siblings, Trella Mae Matthews, Maxine Horne, and Virginia “Teenie” Lee.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, June 21, 2024, at Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at the home of Jean Price, 515 Gause Canal Road, Coward.
Funeral services will be 4:00 PM, Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial to follow at Hicks Cemetery, Coward.
