First Sergeant Charles "CJ" Edward James, 76, husband of Nereyda James, died Friday, November 5, 2021, at his residence.
First Sergeant James was born on November 24, 1944 in Kenner, LA, son of the late Anthony Joseph James, Sr. and Catherine "Jo" James. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and Army, where he served for 37 years, having served during Vietnam, Desert Storm and was a Scout Recon Sniper. First Sergeant James enjoyed motorcycles, guns, his family, especially his girls and going to church. He was a creative thinker and dedicated to everything he attempted. First Sergeant James loved to hunt, watch military movies and visit Honduras. He also loved Chocolate Meringue Pie and Pastelitos.
Surviving are his wife, Nereyda James of Coward; children, Michelle James, and Tammy (Stanley) Shady, both of Coward and Anthony James of SC; grandson, Dustin Shady of Coward; daughter, Amanda Britt Bryant of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Nazlo Martin of Freeport, NY; nephew, Nazlo Miguel Martin; cousins, John (Maria) Tucker of James Island and Billy Browne of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
First Sergeant James was preceded in death by his son, Eric Jason James; and brother, Anthony James, Jr.

A Celebration of Life service will be 4:00 PM, Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Scranton Baptist Church.
