Mrs. Frances B. Humphries, 86, of Lake City, wife of James Russell Humphries, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center of the Pee Dee, Florence.
Mrs. Humphries was born on June 30, 1938, in Clarendon County, daughter of the late Doris William Barrineau and Susan Emma Robinson Barrineau. She was a member of Lake City First Baptist Church. Frankie was a graduate of East Clarendon High School in Turbeville, SC and Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA. She was a highly accomplished accounting manager for new automobile dealerships. She began work as a bookkeeper for a Ford dealership, working through several ownership changes and subsequently worked for Honda, Mazda, Volkswagen, Chevrolet and other Ford Dealerships located in Florence, Columbia, Darlington, Bamburg and Orangeburg. She pursued the accounting courses offered by the various automobile manufacturers and received many awards for her knowledge and ability to manage the accounting function regardless of the manufacturer. She worked until September 2023 before retiring but continued to do consulting part time until July 2024. In her early years, she loved playing golf and won the Lake City Country Club Ladies Championship. Later, she conducted a proprietorship known as Frantiques for the past 20 years where she sold antiques and household items in a mall setting. In her free time, she enjoyed growing various flowers, shrubs, trees and cultivated four small raised vegetable gardens. Cooking “Gramma’s Fried Chicken” kept her family and friends very happy.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, James Russell Humphries of Lake City; sons, James Russell (Kim) Humphries, Jr. of Columbia and Jay Shannon (Randi) Humphries of Scranton; grandchildren, Trevor Humphries, Shane Humphries, Lilly Humphries and Katie Hurst; siblings, David Kenneth Barrineau and Elizabeth Rimmer Benton; many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Humphries was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Ray Humphries; grandchild, Kathleen Raye Humphries; siblings, Charles Leo Barrineau, Dorothy E. Barrineau, Lynn Lenson Jeffers, Joseph Barrineau, Bethea Barrineau and William Jack Barrineau.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Carolina Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park.
