Freeman Evans, 89, of Pamplico, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and unwavering love for his family. Born and raised with strong values and a generous spirit, Freeman lived a life defined by hard work, devotion, and genuine care for others.
Freeman served proudly in the United States Army before beginning a long and meaningful career with Overnite Transportation. There, he formed many lifelong friendships and became known for his reliability and leadership. He especially cherished his years playing softball with the Overnite team, where his leadership and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on everyone who played beside him.
A man who loved the simple joys of life, Freeman could often be found fishing and camping, watching the Atlanta Braves play baseball, or spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren never left his side without him sharing a Pepsi, Snickers bar, or peanuts—and even if you told the children no, he would give it to them anyway, smiling as he did.
Freeman deeply loved and adored his wife, Betty Glisson Evans. She was his constant companion and the center of his world. Even in his final days, his thoughts were of her comfort and well-being, a reflection of the devotion that defined their life together.
Freeman is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Betty Glisson Evans of Pamplico; his children Debra Eaddy (George) of Johnsonville, Dale Evans (Allyson) of Florence, Cindy Harman (Cade) of Florence, and Phil Evans (Tyra) of Pamplico. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Chad Powell (Natalie), Kim Turner (Dave), Lance Evans (Melody), Winston Evans (Haley), Chrissy Stewart (Shawn), Brittany O’Neal, Mia Evans, Mandy Gore, Jonna Howle, Julie Davis, and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Mae Evans and Curtis Evans, and by his siblings Carolyn Stone, Buster Evans, Nora Collins, Brunson Evans, Faye Baxley, C.D. Evans, and Eugene Evans.
Freeman will be remembered for his gentle heart, steady presence, and deep commitment to those he loved. His memory will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Unity Free Will Baptist Church, Johnsonville, with funeral services to follow at 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary.
Burial will follow at New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Pamplico.
