Genevieve Owens Rogers, 93, widow of Marvin Edgebert Rogers, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at her residence.
Mrs. Rogers was born on October 9, 1927, daughter of the late James Ottly Owens and Missouri J. Eaddy Owens. She was a charter member of Grace Free Will Baptist Church and later in life joined Calvary Baptist Church. She along with her daughter and a close friend, formed a trio that sang and ministered in several different churches throughout that time. Her working career included positions at Wentworth, TG&Y, Belk and over 35 years at Wal-Mart, where she received several awards while working there. She sang and taught in church all throughout her lifetime and always wanted to serve the lord. Due to covid, she and her family continued to faithfully hold full church services in her home. The highlight of her day, where ever she was, was witnessing to people about Jesus.
Survivors include her daughter, Reverend Janet R. Coker of Lake City; grandchildren, Amy Coker Taylor and her husband Gary of Greenville, SC, Charles E. Rogers, Jr. and his wife Leslie of Florence; great grandchildren, Tristan Taylor, Sydney Taylor, Harrison Bigham and Emerson Rogers.
Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her son, Charles “Ed” Rogers, Sr. and son-in-law, Reverend Edward Coker.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
