Gerald E. "Jerry" Byrd

Coward:  Gerald E. “Jerry” Byrd, 62, husband of Penny Welch Byrd, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Jerry was born October 30, 1961, in Florence County, son of Nell Horne Byrd and the late Elijah Byrd. He worked in the roofing and construction business and was a very hard working man. Jerry enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was an outdoor enthusiast and loved riding his Harley Davidson to the mountains.

Surviving in addition to his mother and wife, are his children, Shana Lee (Eric) Outlaw of Coward, Bryan (Miranda) Byrd of Hartsville and Ryan Byrd of Greenville; nineteen (19) grandchildren; one (1) great grandchild; siblings, Altheria Jean (Dennis) Price and Terry (Rhonda) Byrd, both of Coward; stepchildren, Ashley (Dean) Yarborough and Cecil Anderson, both of Coward; close friends, LaRue Johnson and Stephen (Pam) Blackmon; a number of nieces and nephews and extended family members.

Jerry was preceded in death by siblings, Alva Lynn Byrd and Michael Dean “Mickey” Byrd; nephews, Kelvin Price and Jodie Price; mother of his children, Barbara Lee Byrd.

Funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Hicks Cemetery in Coward.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home and other times at the home of Jerry Byrd, 534 Lynch Road, Coward.
