Gerald “Jerry” Stephens, 78, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence.
Jerry was born on January 14, 1947, in Blackstone, Virginia, son of the late Ondes Stephens and Nellie Brown Stephens. He found a true sense of community and belonging through his many years of participation in the Florence County Disabilities & Special Needs workshops. He not only enjoyed the activities and learning opportunities provided, but also deeply valued the staff and the friendships he forged there. Beyond the workshops, Jerry had simple pleasures he cherished, from the familiar tastes of McDonald’s and KFC to the thrill of classic Westerns, especially his beloved “Gunsmoke.” Above all else, family was important to him. A kind and loving person, he treasured visits with his family, finding joy in their company.
Surviving are his sisters, Judy (David) Miracle of Crewe, VA, Brenda (Peter) Holze of Florence and Gayle Ward of Lake City; nieces, Donna (Russell) Moody of Darlington, Tracy Lowder of Lake City and Cyndi Miracle of Richmond, VA; great nephews, Clay (Holley) Lowder of Florence, William Moody of Darlington, Aaron Moody of Darlington, and Tyler Miracle of Richmond, VA; great niece, Olivia (Matthew) Howard of Darlington; great great nephew, Lane Lowder of Florence.
