Hugh Smith Obituary

Christopher Hugh Smith, 82, husband of Mary Ellen McClam Smith, died Sunday, October 21, 2018, at Carolinas Hospital System, Florence.

Mr. Smith was born on January 28, 1936 in Williamsburg County, son of the late Clarence Liston Smith and Clelia M. Mixon Smith.  He was a member of Hebron Independent Church and was a retired farmer and Lineman with Sumter Utilities.  Hugh was a member of Red Oak Hunting Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen McClam Smith of Cades; daughter Marianne S. (Landy) Thomas of Cades; grandson, Robbie (Wendy) Thomas; great grandchildren, Sarah Grace Thomas and Brenna Welch; siblings, Kathryn Joan Woolley and David L. Smith; and good friend, Tommy Campbell, who was like a son.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Hugh "Chris" Smith; siblings, Gerald Gilbert Smith, Clarence L. "Junior" Smith, Bruce Allen Smith and Patricia June Smith.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at Hebron Independent Church.  Burial, directed by Carolina Funeral Home, will follow in the church cemetery.  

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the church.

Memorials may be made to Hebron Independent Church, 1424 Hebron Road, Cades, SC, 29518.
