Illa Mae Matthews, 89, wife of the late Wilbur Edward Matthews, died Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Lake City Community Hospital.
Mrs. Matthews was born on May 17, 1931 in Florence County, daughter of the late Leo Collins and Sarah McKnight Collins. She was a member of Beulah Free Will Baptist Church of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith and was a former inspector with Avondale. Mrs. Matthews enjoyed working in her flowers and cooking for her family and friends.
Surviving are her daughters, Diane Welch, Judy Brown and Geraldine (Phillip) Broach; grandchildren, Allen (Peggy) Dennis, Lorrie (Wayne) Hein and Andy (Tonya) Welch; great grandchildren, Bridget, Tyler, Brittany, Chelsea, Hannah and Elizabeth; three great-great grandchildren; siblings, Mary McCutcheon and Dovelt Collins and a special nephew, Danny Matthews.
Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her siblings, Ella Mae Matthews, Connie Stokes, Selvia Jean Collins Sims, B. J. Collins, Harold Collins, Bobby Collins, Stanley Collins, Collie Collins, Willard Collins, C. B. Collins and Elmer Jean Floyd; son-in-law, Billy Brown; and grandson, Tommy Miller.
Funeral services will be 4:00 PM, Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Beulah Free Will Baptist Church of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith on Old #4 Highway with burial to follow at Hicks Hill Cemetery, beside the church.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 PM, Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at the church prior to the services.
