James Brite “Junior” Tompkins, 77, husband of Cynthia Turner Tompkins, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his family and friends.
J.B. was born on January 4, 1948, in Georgetown, son of the late James “Brite” Tompkins and Clara Cooper Tompkins. He was a member of Unity Christian Fellowship Church, which he loved dearly. J.B. was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School and retired from the paper mill in Florence after 41 years of service.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Cynthia Turner Tompkins of Effingham; grandsons, Nick (Beth) Lester of Effingham and Alex Wilson of Dillon, Montana; step–daughter, Tippy Retana; sister, Gladys Pipkin.
J.B. was preceded in death by his siblings, James Edward Tompkins, Lee Tompkins, Reba Rogers, Jane Cribb, Margie Tompkins and Betty Tompkins; step-daughter, Gail Cunningham.
The family will receive friends 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Unity Christian Fellowship Church, 3652 Olanta Hwy, Timmonsville, SC 29161.
A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Unity Christian Fellowship Church.
