Obituary

Mr. James “Jay” Ray Parker, Sr., 67, husband of the late Nancy Laine Wrenn Parker, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at his home in Scranton.

Mr. Parker was born on August 17, 1956, in Chesterfield County, son of the late Freddie Ray Parker, Sr. and Azzilee Woodard Parker. He went to work for W. Lee Flowers around the age of 16 years old, working in the warehouse, driving trucks and then retiring after 40 years. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, hunting and being outdoors. Mr. Parker had a wonderful sense of humor and was a pleasure to be around. Coach “Jay” enjoyed working with the Dixie Youth Baseball team in Scranton. He enjoyed working in his garden and was known for his specialty in growing tomatoes.  

Surviving are his son, James “Jamie” Ray (Robin) Parker, Jr. of Lake City; daughter, Merita “Meri” Parker (Chris) Marcille of West Chester, PA; grandsons, Fisher James Parker, Fields Jameson Parker and Finnley Jaxon Parker; brothers, Freddie Ray (Carol) Parker of Turbeville and Jerry Ray (Donna) Parker of Florence; mother-in-law, Rita Wrenn of Scranton.

Mr. Parker was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Ray Parker; father-in-law, Reverend Stoney Wrenn.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with private burial.
