Mr. James V. “JV” Holladay, Jr., 85, of Cades, husband of JoAnn Thigpen Holladay, passed away Monday, May 19, 2025, at his residence.
Mr. Holladay was born on February 28, 1940, in Williamsburg County, son of the late James Verdell Holladay, Sr. and Willie Mae Wise Holladay. Mr. Holladay dedicated his life to serving others—through his work, his faith, and most of all, his family. He retired from the South Carolina Department of Education after a long and respected career as a Transportation Supervisor, where his leadership and commitment left a lasting impression. A man of quiet strength and unwavering devotion, he treasured time with his family and extended family, finding his greatest joy in their presence. For many years, he served as a beloved Little League baseball coach in Hebron, shaping the lives of countless young players with his encouragement, patience, and love for the game. His generosity knew no bounds—he was always the first to offer help, never seeking recognition. A faithful member of Hebron CrossRoads Church and proud graduate of Hebron High School, Mr. Holladay lived a life rooted in community and purpose. He was a natural storyteller, and his tales—told with warmth, humor, and a twinkle in his eye—will be fondly remembered and passed down through generations.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, JoAnn Thigpen Holladay of Hebron Community, Cades; children, Karen H. Sullivan of Socastee, James V. “Jamie” (Dana) Holladay, III of Lexington and Carol Ann Holladay of Cades; grandchildren, Ben (Lindsey) Sullivan, Faith JoAnn Holladay, Lillian “Lilly” Grace Holladay and Seaver James Holladay; great grandson, Landon Sullivan; siblings, Swintz (Ruth) Holladay, Jackie (Joyce) Holladay and Cynthia (Donnie) Atkinson; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Holladay was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jackie Sullivan.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Hebron CrossRoads Church, Cades.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Hebron CrossRoads Church, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
