Janet Barbara Hook Floyd of Lake City, SC passed away at McLeod Hospice House on Friday, November 22, 2024. She was born on October 31, 1937 in Lake City, the oldest child and only girl for Fred and Jacqueline Rodgers Hook. She grew up in Manning, SC.
She was married for 64 wonderful years to Howard Floyd. They lived for years in Charlotte and Shelby, NC before moving to Lake City. She leaves behind amazing friends including her college friends from Furman University who for years took trips together, the Bridge group from Charlotte that she and Howard were a part of, and her neighbors, extended family, and church friends in Lake City.
After more than 30 years of teaching and being a librarian, she retired from The Carolina Academy. She had a positive impact on the lives of so many children as a teacher, Girl Scout leader, and Sunday School teacher. Janet always appreciated reading and a really good book and passed that on to her two daughters and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving family, husband Howard, her daughters Allyson Floyd (Todd) Hill and Ginny Floyd, and two grandchildren and the lights of her life Reagan Hill and Lexie Hill. She is also survived by two brothers Dr. Charles (Anne) Hook and Robert “Bobby” Hook, several brother- and sisters-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother Bill Hook.
The family would like to extend our everlasting appreciation to her caregivers who assisted her at home and McLeod Hospice House for their care and compassion during her final hours.
