Jean (Johnson) Gibbons

Mrs. Jean Johnson Gibbons, 89, of Andrews, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 31, 2024. She married John Ivey Gibbons on September 28, 1951. After 59 years of marriage, John passed away on July 15, 2010. After his death, she married Robert C. Watford, Sr. on June 20, 2014.

Mrs. Jean was born in Mont Clair, South Carolina on March 22,1935, daughter of the late Dallas Alden Johnson and Ila Mae Baker Johnson. She was employed for a number of years at Baxter Laboratories in Kingstree. In 1980 she joined the U S Postal Service in Lake City and Andrews.  However, her favorite and most important job was being a Pastor’s Wife, Mother and Nana. Mrs. Jean was a worker in the Church. She taught Sunday School in the late 1950’s. She was a leader in Vacation Bible School at Prospect PH Church in Johnsonville and active in the Ladies Auxiliary. Working in her flowers and flower beds brought a lot of joy to her.

Surviving are her children, Wanda Gibbons and Tony (Tammy) Gibbons both of Andrews, Becky (Mark) Swanner of Conway; grandchildren, Landy (Lori) Cox of Moncks Corner, Justin (Rachel) Swanner of Fredricksburg, VA, Ashley (Lauren) Cox of Myrtle Beach, Kristen (Abe) Elreda of Murrells Inlet, Bryan Swanner of Ashburn, VA, Kyle (Suzanne) Gibbons of Pawleys Island and Lauren (Adam) Burrows of Fredricksburg, VA; great grandchildren, Courtlyn Cox, Landyn Cox, Belle Swanner, L. J. Swanner, Emma Grace Cox, Ivey Cox, Ace Elreda, Jules Elreda, Aliyah Elreda, Fallon Gibbons, Smith Gibbons, Ty Gibbons, Ella Rae Burrows and Mark Burrows; many friends; dearest and closest friend/caregiver, Kay Lott.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jean was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Rev. John Gibbons, and her daughter, Cathy G. Smoak of Johnsonville; sister, Romaine Atkinson and brother, Dallas Gordan Johnson both of Conway.

Mrs. Jean was dedicated to the Lord by her family.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, June 3, 2024, at Christian Fortress Church, 536 US 521, Andrews, South Carolina 29510.

Funeral services will be  3:00 PM, Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Garden of Devotion Cemetery, 815 S. Georgetown Hwy, Johnsonville, South Carolina 29555.
