Obituary

Jerold L. Windham, affectionately known as “Cuz,” was a devoted family man, respected businessman, and beloved member of the Lake City community. He passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on April 29, 1936, to Dawson and Mary Windham, Jerold lived a life defined by hard work, humor, and heart. He was formerly married to the late, Francis Anne Huggins.

A proud graduate of Hanna High School, Jerold had the unique distinction of not only attending school—but also driving his classmates there each morning as the school bus driver. He was a standout athlete, earning All-State honors in basketball while also excelling in baseball. His athleticism and dedication led him to North Greenville College, where he continued playing both sports at the collegiate level.

Jerold began his professional career with Seaboard Railroad as a train engineer, embracing the values of discipline and reliability. In 1958, with vision and determination, he founded Windham’s Used Cars in Lake City — a business that continues to thrive today under the leadership of his sons, Dean and Brad, in Florence and Charleston.

He had a deep love for classic cars, sports, and fishing—interests that brought him joy and connected him with those around him. Whether he was casting a line, watching a ballgame, or talking shop about muscle cars, Jerold’s passion was contagious and heartfelt.

Jerold was a longtime member of Stone’s Chapel Church in Hanna, SC, where his faith remained a cornerstone of his life.

He was part of a close-knit family and is remembered fondly by his siblings: Harriet Graham, Randy Windham, and Ronnie (Sue) Windham. He was the proud father of Karen McClary, Dean (Becky McLeod Windham) Windham and Brad (Lisa Guerrino-Windham) Windham, and the loving grandfather of Danielle Foxworth, Devan Blackenbacker, Kayla Windham,  Nick Windham, Luke Windham, James Dean Windham, and Dawson Windham; many nieces and nephews.

He was known for his sharp wit, his generous spirit, and his unwavering dedication to those he loved. Whether it was showing up to every baseball game, answering every call, or keeping the family business strong, Jerold embodied consistency, loyalty, and pride in all he did.

His legacy lives on in the family he built, the community he served, and the stories he told—often with a twinkle in his eye and a laugh ready to follow.

Jerold was preceded in death by his parents, Dawson and Mary Windham; son-in-law, Russell McClary; brother-in-law, Jimmy Graham; nephew, Scott Windham.
