Jesse Mango Caraway, 81, husband of Sandy Wheeler Caraway, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Mr. Caraway died at MUSC, Florence, SC.
He was born on July 17, 1939 in Florence County, son of the late Obed Mango Caraway and Lela Miles Caraway. He graduated from J.C. Lynch High School. Jesse was a farmer, a U.S. Air Force veteran, retired from DuPont after 32 years, Florence, and worked at Longstreet Chevrolet in Kingstree, SC. He was an avid Clemson Tigers fan and loved attending football games with family and friends. He started attending games in high school. Jesse and friend, Jerry (Lynn) Wise still attended Clemson games until Covid-19. Jesse also enjoyed having breakfast with his Hardee buddies up until Covid-19. He was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord, and was a lifelong member and deacon/trustee of Ariel Baptist Church. He was a member and Past Master and current Secretary of Robert Burns Lodge #337 and member of The Eastern Star. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
Surviving are his wife of the home, a son, Dennis Caraway (Sherry Grimsley) of Coward, and daughter, Paige Caraway Pate of Scranton, SC, a sister, Lazette Ousley of Blythewood, SC, three sister in laws and two brother in laws, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
He is predeceased in death by his parents, Siblings: Jack ”JE” Caraway, Robert Caraway, Ann C. Kelly, and Margie C. Singletary and son-in-law Carl Pate and mother & father in law Willard & Mildred Wheeler.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 21, 2021, at St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery in Coward, SC.
