Mr. Jessie Rhames “Raymond” Morris, Jr., 82, husband of Marilyn Graham Morris, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025, at his residence in Kingstree.
Mr. Morris was born on February 22, 1943, in Clarendon County, son of the late Jesse Rhames Morris, Sr. and Elise Watson Morris. Mr. Morris proudly served his country for six years in the United States Marine Corps, and he carried that same dedication and discipline throughout his life. A faithful member of Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church, he also worked for more than 30 years at Albany International as a machine operator.
If you knew him, you knew he could do just about anything — and he loved showing others how. He was a big-time drag racing fan, an incredible cook, a master carpenter, and could build a grill that would last a lifetime. To his family, he wasn’t just a provider — he was their rock, their protector, and the one everyone looked up to.
He had a generous heart that showed in the way he gardened. Every year, he planted vegetables, tended them carefully, and then gave them all away… never keeping a single bite for himself. And if you needed your trash hauled off, he was your man — earning him the nickname “Trash Man” from family and friends.
His kind spirit, quick smile, and steady love will be remembered by everyone blessed to have known him. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Amedisys Hospice and staff for the compassionate care and support shown during his illness.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Marilyn Graham Morris, is their son and daughter-in-law, Brian “Craig” Morris and Keri Morris, of Kingstree; 3 grandchildren, Jacob Craig Morris, Garrett Brian Morris and Marylynn Morris; and sisters, Sadie Funderburk and Virginia Mason, both of Greeleyville; along with many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Morris was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ann Turner.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at High Hill Cemetery in Scranton. After the service, family and friends are welcome to gather at Raymond’s shop to share memories, laughter, and a little time together in his honor.
