Jimmy Roy Carnes 76, a joyful soul of Florence, SC entered eternal rest on August 10, 2024, at McLeod Hospice House. He was born on October 19, 1947, in Lancaster, SC to John & Alice Carnes. He was the oldest of four siblings and until his death maintained a special relationship with his sister Glenda Faye Bowers.
Jimmy moved to Florence, SC in 1979 and in 1980 began working at Freeman’s Bakery as a dishwasher and kitchen helper. Jimmy loved his time with Freeman’s and retired after 30 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Jimmy attended Braxton W. Collins Center, and later Active Day Adult Daycare, where he made many friends and had the opportunity to participate in community activities. Jimmy was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Florence, SC where he sang on the choir and participated in Sunday School. Jimmy was a huge fan of the Clemson Tigers and wore their colors proudly as he and his girlfriend Nancy cheered them on. Jimmy moved to Florence Trellis apartments in May of 2008, and resided there until his health declined.
Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory his sweetheart of over thirty years Nancy Harrell; his sister Glenda Faye Bowers; one niece, Mary Ann Johnson; 3 great nieces; 4 great great nieces; 4 great great nephews; the staff and residents of Florence Trellis; his special caretaker Barbara “Allstate” Brockington; members of the Florence County Disabilities & Special Needs Board; the Edgerton (Rick & Aline) family; his Southside Church family; and a host of many that loved and cared for him. Jimmy was proceeded in death by his father John, his mother Alice, and his great nephew Corey Michaels.
Jimmy loved the Lord and would be heard singing all throughout the day praising Him. As his health declined, Jimmy would still sing praises and tell those that visited him that he was “keeping my eyes on Jesus”. Jimmy was loved and his presence will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Southside Baptist Church, 1356 S. Pineland Drive, Florence, SC.
Family will receive friends, immediately following the service at the church.
Burial will be Private.
