Phyllis Joan Andrews Godwin, 77, wife of Steve Godwin, died Thursday, September 29, 2022, at home.
Mrs. Godwin was born on July 18, 1945, in Columbia, SC, daughter of the late Thomas Rowe Andrews and Carolyn Chapman Andrews. She was a member of Lake City United Methodist Church and Community Bible Study of Georgetown. Mrs. Godwin was a 1963 graduate of Eau Claire, Columbia, SC, attended Newberry College and later graduating from Francis Marion College. She greatly enjoyed her work with United States Department of Agriculture in Florence and Kingstree for over 40 years, prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Godwin cherished every moment she had with her family and friends, but especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, swimming, sea shell hunting on the beach, listening to waves crash, and Edisto sunrises and sunsets. Mrs. Godwin would do anything for anyone, enjoyed spending time with her family and loved Christmas.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 57 years, Lawrence Steve Godwin of Lake City; are her sons, Dr. Steven Andrews “Andy” Godwin and his wife, Meg, of Neptune Beach, Florida and Lawrence Drew Godwin, and his wife Christa, of Lake City; grandchildren, Farrel and Mac, both of Lake City, Andrew, Steven, Thomas, John and Andi, all of Neptune Beach, FL; special son, Jerry Funk of Chesnee, SC; special daughter, Rebecca Alexander of Kingstree; family friends, Nell Fulmore and companion, Hoss. Special “Thanks” to her confidants and best friends, Mary Glover, Donna Cromer and Lavelle Weaver.
Mrs. Godwin was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Chapman Carter.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Lake City United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, Monday, October 3, 2022 at Carolina Funeral Home, 215 E. Hwy 378 Bypass, Scranton, SC 29591.
