Mr. Joel Clayton Flowers, 88, of Pamplico, husband of Lillie Mae Kennedy Flowers, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025, at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center.
Mr. Flowers was born on September 16, 1936, in Florence County, son of the late Grover Cleveland “Jack” Flowers and Evelyn Turner Flowers. He was a devoted member of Mount Elon Free Will Baptist Church, where he found fellowship and faith throughout his life. Mr. Flowers dedicated 21 years of his life to serving in the United States Air Force, including time spent in the Vietnam War, being awarded The Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious services for 1971 – 1976. A skilled carpenter by trade, he also enjoyed some farming. A proud graduate of Pamplico High School, he found joy in simple pleasures like fishing and riding his golf cart. He was a familiar sight on Turner Gate Road, often seen several times a day cruising along in his golf cart, taking in the scenery and visiting with friends and neighbors, and enjoyed listening to country music.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 70 years, Lillie Mae Kennedy Flowers, of Pamplico, are his children, Sandra Flowers (John “Buddy) Bazen of Pamplico and Joel Steven (Sonja) Flowers of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Jason S. (Leigh) Bazen and Brittany (Josh) Little, both of Pamplico; great grandchildren, Emma Little, Nate Little, Clay Bazen and Austyn Bazen, all of Pamplico; brother, Roger L. Flowers of Summerton.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Carolina Funeral Home, 215 E. Hwy 378 Bypass, Scranton, SC 29591.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Mount Elon Free Will Baptist Church, 263 West Seven Mile Road, Pamplico, SC 29583. Burial, with Military Honors, to follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Mount Elon Free Will Baptist Church, 263 West Seven Mile Road, Pamplico, SC 29583.
