Mr. John Alton Perdue, 84, of Scranton, husband of Shirley Morris Perdue, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence.
Mr. Perdue was born on June 12, 1940, in Chesterfield County, son of the late John Henry Perdue and Cora Lee Irby Perdue. Mr. Perdue was a proud Marine who served his country for 20 years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam and a year to the National Guard. He was a member of Salem Free Will Baptist Church. Before retiring, he successfully owned and operated Perdue Trucking. Known for his patience and unwavering love for his family, he was a beloved “Papa” to his grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoyed the tranquility of his garden and the thrill of riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Shirley Morris Perdue; stepdaughters, Sheree (CN) Dennis and Linda (James) Lamb; grandchildren, Jennifer Kirby, Kala (Justin) Poston and Matthew Dennis; great grandchildren, Walker Kirby, Wyatt Kirby, Madalynn Kirby, Emma Kate Poston and Rivers Poston; brother, Curtis Perdue.
Mr. Perdue was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Dennis; siblings, James Edward Perdue, Annie Lee Perdue, Howard Perdue, Beatrice Shephard, Lucille Harper, and Sylvia Eaddy.
The family would like to “Thank” his caregivers and Hospice for their compassion and care.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be private.
