Obituary

Mr. Johnny Cohen Thigpen, 76, husband of the late Emily Jo Thigpen, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026 at his home in Cades.

Mr. Thigpen was born on June 19, 1949, in Lee County, son of the late John Hugh Thigpen and Azalee Bennett Thigpen. Mr. Johnny was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church, was the owner and operator of American Transportation and was a farmer. Mr. Johnny was a hard-working, honest person, a jokester and was always fun to be around. He enjoyed playing golf and visiting the mountains, but he found the most joy being around his family and being home enjoying the peacefulness of his yards.

Surviving are his son, Johnny Cohen Thigpen, Jr. of Durham, NC; sister, Phyllis (Roger) Coward; nieces, Michelle (Rhett) Beard of Barrineau, Stephanie Lynn (Barry) McGee of Scranton, Tamara (Craig) Bryant of New Zion; nephew, William (Rhonda) Thigpen, Jr. of Turbeville; step-great grandchildren, Payton Hanniford, Liam Hanniford; step-grandchild, Rebecca Infinger; step-great grandchildren, Aubrey Holsenback and Demi Infinger.

Mr. Thigpen was preceded in death by his sister, Sheryl Kaye Thigpen and brother, William Darry Thigpen.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Monday, May 11, 2026, at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home.

Burial will be private.
