Mr. Joseph “Joe” Ackerman, 77, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at The Palms at Florence.
Mr. Ackerman was born on September 23, 1948, in Florence County, son of the late Harris Ackerman and Mary Elise Broad Ackerman. He was the owner and operator of Ackerman’s Used Cars. Mr. Joe’s greatest pastime was watching Nascar and Westerns on TV. He was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his daughter, Dawn Ackerman Owens; sister, Vicki Tippins; grandchildren, Tyler (Catherine) Exum, Angel (Drew) Barfield; one great grandchild, Baylee Anne Exum; sister-in-law, Mildred Ackerman; nephews, Jarrod (Jill) Tippins, Toby (Cathy) Ackerman, Jimmy (Sharon) Ackerman, Brad (Miranda) Ackerman, and several great nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mr. Ackerman was preceded in death by his step mother, Myrtle Lee Ackerman; son-in-law, Tony Owens; brother, Ervin Clinton “Bubba” Ackerman.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at The Palms for their love and care of Mr. Joe.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Monday, March 9, 2026, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM, in the chapel. Burial will be private.
