Obituary

Mr. Joseph “Joey” Bryant, 42, husband of Rita McCutcheon Bryant, passed away peacefully at his home in Lake City on Sunday, May 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on June 19, 1983, in Florence County, Joey was the beloved son of Frank and Cindy Calcutt Bryant. He was a hardworking man who formerly worked with the South Carolina Department of Transportation in bridge construction, but more importantly, he was a devoted husband, daddy, PaPa JoJo, son, brother, and friend whose love for his family was the center of his life.

Joey never met a stranger. His smile, sense of humor, and kind heart made everyone around him feel like family. Whether he was spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, cutting grass with his daddy, remodeling his home for him and Rita, or simply sitting around laughing with friends, Joey treasured every moment spent with the people he loved most. He especially loved playing with his children and grandchildren, who brought endless joy and pride to his life. And if you knew Joey, you knew he always had a sweet tooth and never turned down a piece of candy, something his family and friends will always smile about when they think of him.

A cherished member of the Lake City Omar Jets, Joey faithfully served as co-captain for the past two years. His Shriner brothers and their ladies held a special place in his heart, and the friendships he shared through the Omar Jets were ones he deeply treasured. In September 2025, Joey was honored to receive the Medal of Honor FEZ, an accomplishment that meant so much to him.

More than anything, Joey adored his loving wife, Rita. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family. The love he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Rita McCutcheon Bryant; daughters, Stephanie (Bubba) Worrell, Keeley (Emmett) McGee, and Trinadee (Landon) McGee; brother, Rod (Mandy) Bryant; sister, Janna (Dwaine) Floyd; grandchildren, Faithlyn Floyd, Paislynn Floyd, Caden Worrell, and Adalynn Floyd; parents, Frank and Cindy Bryant; grandmother, Katy Bryant; best friends, Dale and Nikki Mixon; nieces and nephews, Anna Grace (Zack) Bryant, Evan (Peyton) Bryant, Kiley Floyd, Kourtlyn Floyd, Kaleb Floyd, and Levi Floyd; along with many aunts, uncles, extended family members, dear friends, and fellow Shriners who loved him dearly.

Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie James Bryant and Frank and Barbara Calcutt.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Carolina Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Lake City Omar Jets, 14973 Salem Road, Lake City, SC 29560.

Though Joey’s earthly journey ended far too soon, the love, laughter, and memories he gave to his family and friends will remain forever in their hearts.
