June (Hanna) Thayer

Hannah, SC – Mrs. June Hanna Thayer, age 87, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at her home in Hannah, SC.

She was born June 17, 1937, in Hannah, SC, to the late Clifford and Janese (Bushardt) Hanna. She was a graduate of Winthrop University (Bachelor’s Degree) and Appalachian State University (Master’s Degree). She married her soulmate, William “Bill” Thayer, in 1957 and welcomed her only son, William Robert “Bert” Thayer in 1958. She worked as a teacher for over 25 years in South Carolina, touching hundreds of lives, before her retirement in the 1980s. Upon retirement, June & Bill traveled the United States, oftentimes with their granddaughters. She loved travelling, dancing, gardening, animals, and her life in the country on her family’s land.

Mrs. Thayer is survived by her granddaughters, Jessica (Josh) Singletary of Hannah, SC and Hanna (Eric) Gustafson of Camden, SC. She also is survived by her great-grandchildren Jacob Singletary, Ethan & Eliot Jordan, and Robert Gustafson; many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, her daughter-in-law, and special friends, Martin & Denise.

She was preceded in death by her son, Bert Thayer, her husband, Bill Thayer, her brother, Clifford “C.E” Hanna, her niece, Tammy Hanna, and her best friend, Minda Cain.

The family will receive friends from 12 PM to 1 PM on Friday, August 30, 2024 at the Carolina Funeral Home at 215 E. Hwy 378, Scranton SC.

The funeral services will be held at 1 PM in the Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with a private burial to follow.
