Mrs. LaVonne Matthews Hamilton, 84, of Manning, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, July 1, 2024. She was born on January 2, 1940, grew up in Coward, SC, and was the daughter of the late Carl Manton Matthews and Alma Anderson Matthews. She was a graduate of J.C. Lynch High School in Coward, received a Business Degree from Carolina Commercial College and a Nursing Degree from the University of South Carolina in Florence, SC. She was a Registered Nurse for 45 years and was a member of Conway Methodist Church, Conway, SC.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon M. Purvis and her husband, Russell of Manning, SC; granddaughter, Miles Purvis Daniel (Beattie) of Columbia, SC; great-grandson, Russell B. Daniel; siblings, Anne M. Bragdon, Carlie Brooks Matthews (Claire), and Elaine M. McElveen (Norman); step children, Robert Eugene Hamilton, Jr. and William (Bill) Hamilton; step grandchildren, Bobby Collins, Bert Collins and Rebecca Collins; sister-in-law, Sarah Frances Hamilton Ropp; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Hamilton of Conway, SC; stepdaughter, Patricia Hamilton Collins; brother-in-law, William H. Bragdon.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 5, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home with private burial to follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Coward, SC.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
