Mr. David Lanier Welch, 80, husband of Catherine Webster Welch, died Wednesday, September 01, 2021, at MUSC Health of Florence, after an illness.
Mr. Welch was born on July 5, 1941 in Timmonsville, son of the late Glennie Preston Welch and Frances Anderson Welch. He was a graduate of Timmonsville High School and served in the South Carolina Army National Guard. Lanier and Catherine were married on June 30, 1991 at Lake City First Baptist Church. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lake City, SC. where he served as Director of Music. Mr. Welch was a lover of the arts and was active in the Community Theater. He was a member of multiple Barber Shop Quartets and for many years served as the director of the Florence Barber Shop Chorus. He spent his life working in the grocery business and was the former owner of Jim's IGA in Lake City.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Webster Welch of Lake City; son, Jim Turbeville; grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon) Crew and Will Godwin; great grandchildren, Braydon, Andie, and Charlie Crew and Porter Godwin; siblings, Bobby (Jeanette) Welch, Gerald (Joyce) Welch, Gail Britt, Randy (Brenda) Welch and Linda (Levonne) Matthews; and sister-in-law, Johnnie Welch.
Mr. Welch was preceded in death by his siblings, Clifford Welch, Dean Welch and Jean McKenzie; and daughter, Becky Godwin.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
