Mrs. Lorellia Gibbons “Relsie” Cook, 80, of Lake City, wife of the late Morrell Cook, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at her home.
Mrs. Cook was born on January 2, 1946, in Kingstree, daughter of the late Vernon Othan “Doc” Gibbons and Colleen Kirby Gibbons. Mrs. Cook was a proud graduate of Greeleyville High School. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and a faithful friend to all who knew her. A lifelong member of Lake City Church of God, Mrs. Cook faithfully served her church as a pianist for many years. She was an anointed musician and singer whose talent was truly a gift from God. Often described as someone who could “tickle the ivories,” she had the remarkable ability to play any song she heard by ear, bringing comfort, joy, and worship through her music.
At the age of sixteen, Mrs. Cook accepted the calling to use her God-given talents solely for the glory of the Lord—a commitment she carried faithfully throughout her life. Worship was at the very center of who she was. She found her greatest joy in playing and singing alongside her children and grandchildren, as well as spending time reading and reflecting on the Word of God.
Mrs. Cook also enjoyed the simple routines that brought her happiness. She faithfully had her hair done every Friday by her special hairdresser, Becky McDonald Tyner—something she looked forward to and cherished each week.
Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Cook “Patty” Burch (Dean) Belue of Lake City, Paula C. (Johnny) McLaughlin of Salters and Cindy Cook of Lake City; grandchildren, Patrick Edward (Grace) Burch of Lake City, Mary Alison Burch (Graham) Wilkins of Lake City and Bella Whitlee McLaughlin of Salters; great grandchildren, Jack Rutledge Burch, Teddy Grace Burch, Margot Jennings Wilkins and soon to be, Relsie Claire Wilkins; many nieces and nephews; special son, Jody (Nancy) Lane of Lake City; special daughter, Melody (Keith) Vaughn of Moncks Corner; special granddaughter, Jennifer Grimsley Stone of Lake City; sisters, Vernon Boyd of Hartsville, Georgia (William) Wimberly of Cayce, and Linda Bodie of Columbia; sister-in-law, Becky Cook of Lake City.
Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by a sister, Madge Feagin.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, Friday, March 20, 2026, at Lake City Church of God, with funeral services to follow at 2:00 PM in church sanctuary.
Burial will be private and memorials may be made to Lake City Church of God, Music Department and Youth Department, PO Box 549, Lake City, SC 29560.
