Mr. Luther Eugene English, 95, husband of the late Edna Hutchinson Ward English, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Gene was born on August 30, 1930, in Moore County, North Carolina, son of Luther Eldridge English and Mary Caddell English. Gene was a dedicated truck driver for many years prior to his retirement, earning the honor of Driver of the Year from the Safety Management Council of the South Carolina Trucking Association. He accumulated more than 50 years of experience in the trucking industry, including 14 years with Smith Fuel Co., Inc./Quality Transport in Lake City. He also proudly served his country in the North Carolina National Guard. Gene was a faithful and devoted member of Stone Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served in numerous capacities for more than 45 years. He was first married to the late, Muril M. English.
Surviving are his children, Patty Hollifield (Warren), David English (Kim), Barbara Monnett (Harold), and Ronnie English; step-children, Belinda Rodgers (David), Tabitha Courtney (Daniel) and Terry Ward; loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, David English (Donna), Peggy J. Jolly and Dora Carolyn English Walters; and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne English; along with several siblings.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Carolina Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel.
Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Pamplico.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stone Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1996 West Hwy 378-Hannah, Pamplico, SC 29583.
