Mrs. Mary Eleanor Humphries Wise, 88, wife of the late Wally Earl Wise, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence.
Mrs. Wise was born on May 3, 1936, in Florence County, daughter of the late Hancy Andrew “H.A.” Humphries and Evelyn Cantey Humphries. Mrs. Wise was a member of Prospect Pentecostal Holiness Church. She dedicated her professional life to Wentworth Manufacturing and other apparel companies, serving in the Payroll Office Administration. A 1954 graduate of Johnsonville High School and 1954 May Queen. She cherished her family deeply, being a great supporter of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and a passionate fan of the Gamecocks. Mrs. Mary and Mr. Earl always gave their kindness and generosity to families and children in need, especially during Christmas. Mrs. Wise felt that her mission work from God was to help people. This manifested in countless ways: driving them to doctor’s appointments and offering a comforting presence during times of need. When a loved one passed away, Mrs. Wise was known for her unwavering support, often bringing a warm, homemade coconut pie to offer a small measure of comfort during their time of grief. Her acts of kindness, both big and small, were a testament to her faith and commitment to serving others.
Surviving are her sons, Myron (Barbara) Wise of Prospect, Rick (Paula) Wise of Camden and Randy Wise of Prospect; grandchildren, Ashley (Tyler) Watson, Amanda Ellen (Jeffrey) Collins, Austin “Audie” (Katie) Wise, Heather (Joshua) Mims, Brittany (Joshua) Smedley and Tanner Wise; eight great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Reynolds; special niece, Nannette (Rusty) Bradshaw; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members; caregivers, Catherine Elmore, Dara Locklair, Amy Evans and Penny Patterson.
Mrs. Wise was preceded in death by a grandson, Garrett Wise; great granddaughter, Quinn Watson; brother-in-law, J.F. Reynolds.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:30 PM, Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Carolina Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2:30 PM, Sunday, January 5, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, 215 E. Hwy 378 Bypass, Scranton, SC 29591, with burial to follow at Garden of Devotion, 800 S. Georgetown Hwy, Johnsonville, SC 29555.
