Mrs. Mary Lou McGee Matthews, 87, wife of the late Reverend Billy David Matthews, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024, at McLeod Hospice House.
Mrs. Matthews was born, April 19, 1937, in Williamsburg County, daughter of the late Tommie McGee and Angela Feagin McGee. She was a long-time member of Coward Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served as the organist for many years and was a former Sunday School Teacher. Mrs. Matthews was owner and operator of Mary Lou’s Beauty Shop.
Surviving are her daughter, Merriell (Rusty) Braveboy; sons, Stanley (Thelma) Matthews and Wayne “Squeaky” (Beverly) Matthews; grandchildren, Will Gray, Clifford Gray, Justin Braveboy, Laci McDaniel, Jamie Nettles, Hannah Cockfield, Caitlyn Prentice, Taylor Lamb, Belinda Shields and Dawn Alexander; 18 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Billy) Altman; brother, Freddie McGee.Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Tiffany Gail Matthews; brothers, Bobby McGee and Durell McGee; sister, Ruby McDougal.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Coward Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
