Millie Jordan Melton, 64, wife of Rick Melton, died Thursday, December 24, 2020 at her home in Lake City surrounded by her family.
Memorial Services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral Home. The service can also be viewed by clicking the live stream button on the obituary page at www.carolinafuneralhome.net.
Millie was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late W. Keith Jordan, Sr. and Mildred Keels Jordan. She graduated from Olanta High School and Spartanburg Junior College and earned her Bachelor Degree from Francis Marion University and her Masters Degree from Lesley University. She taught elementary education for over 40 years, teaching at J.C. Lynch Elementary in Coward and later at Lake City Early Childhood Center. Millie loved to read and had a passion for teaching children. The two special books she always used to inspire her students to read were "The One and Only Ivan" and "Fourth Grade Nothing." She loved her family, especially her daughters, granddaughter, her dear friends, and all of her students. Millie will be greatly missed by all who have been blessed to know her and whose lives she has touched.
She is survived by her husband, Rick Melton of Lake City; daughters, Shannon Purvis (Porter) Barron of Columbia and Kimberly Purvis of London, UK; granddaughter, Mila McKenzie of Columbia; step-daughter, Hillary Melton of Greenville, NC; special nieces and nephews, Wes, Donna (Neil), Mark, Julie and all of their children; and her fur babies, Bailey, Bonnie, Blue, and Georgia.
Millie was preceded in death by her siblings, W. Keith Jordan, Jr., Thompson Keels "Thom" Jordan, Rose Maree Jordan (Max) Myers, and Lenora Jordan (Julian) Foster.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Florence County School District Three Cares Fund which supports the students and families of Florence School District Three. Donations may also be made to the Turbeville Children's Home, 5232 West Turbeville Hwy, Turbeville, SC 29162
Due to Covid-19, the family request for everyone to wear a mask and please maintain the 6 foot social distancing. The family also request everyone to please refrain from hand shaking and hugging one another.
