Norman Newell Turner

Funeral services for Mr. Norman Newell Turner, 87, will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 10th, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, Hartsville. The Rev. Dr. Greg Boyd will officiate and the family will receive friends following the service in the Sanctuary. Burial will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 11, 2021 in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Hannah,  SC, directed by Brown Pennington Atkins Funeral Home, Hartsville.

Norman entered into rest on Thursday, January 7, 2021. Born August 31, 1933 in Hanna, SC, he was a son of the late Pearl Powell Turner and Joseph Otley Turner. He grew up in Hanna and after graduating high school enlisted in the U. S. Army and spent two years serving in Germany. Upon returning, he went to the University of South Carolina and obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Shortly afterward he went to work for Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville where he spent his career as an accountant.

Norman is the last survivor of nine children, having six brothers and two sisters. He leaves behind his wife, Nancy Cox Turner of 64 years and children, Mike (Pat) Turner and Rosemary (Daniel) Dixon. Through their extended family, they have seven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed fishing as a hobby all his life, and attended the First Baptist Church in Hartsville where he worked with the youth of the church for many years. With his hobby, job, family, and church life he stayed busy and had a full life.
