Mr. Perry Henderson Wright, 79, of Coward, husband of the late Dorothy Wright, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024, at his residence.
Mr. Wright was born on July 2, 1944, in Lake City, son of the late Henderson W. Wright and Miriam Jolly Wright. He was a 1963 graduate of Lake City High School, played baseball, football, basketball, track, lettered in all 4 sports and was voted most athletic. Perry was a member of Lake City Church of God, where he served on the council, former Sunday school teacher, former family training hour president, and had a bus ministry. After high school, Perry was a mentor and coached youth recreation sports & men’s softball for 40 plus years, having won several championships. He was a retired Veteran for the National Guard with 20 years of service, and was a retired insurance agent with 35 years. Perry loved the Lord, his family and his church.
Surviving are his children, Amanda (LeGrande) Altman, Stacey (Eric) Driggers, Nicole (Stephen) Thompson; grandchildren, DaKoda Altman, Cheyenne Altman, Landon Altman, Whitney (Adam) McCullough, Aaron Driggers, River Driggers, Griffin Thompson, Sierra (Cohen) Pope and Avery Thompson; great grandchildren, Jazlen Altman, Greyson Driggers and Alliana Altman; sister, Patricia Wright (Gene) Lee; brother, Billy Ray Wright; special nephews, Jason (Tracy) Lamb and Jonathan (Earleen) Lamb; brother-in-law, Tommy Yarborough; sister-in-law, Connie Mixon; extended family members.
Mr. Wright was preceded in death by the love of his life, whom he married June 17, 1966, Dorothy Mixon Wright; brother, Andy Wright; granddaughter, Jadyn Driggers.
The family would like to extend a special “Thanks” to Powell’s Grocery and The Schoolhouse BBQ for always having a seat reserved.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, May 5, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home and at other times, at the home of Patricia & Gene Lee, 605 Grannys Lane, Coward.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, May 6, 2024, at Lake City Church of God, with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park.
