Mr. Ralph Nick Matthews, 91, of Coward, husband of the late Ingrid K. Matthews, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at MUSC Medical Center, Charleston.
Mr. Matthews was born on November 9, 1934, in Florence County, son of the late Wattie Matthews and Gracie Mae Smith Matthews. Nick was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving as a medic while stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he devoted his life to farming and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his community. He was also a graduate of J.C. Lynch High School.
Surviving are his three children, son, Peter (Tammy) Matthews and their son, Logan and his daughter, Jami Perry; son, Richard (Sharon) Matthews and their children, Kirt and Brent (Hannah); son, Danny (Darlene) Matthews and their children, Natasha and Mason (Irelyn); 9 great grandchildren; his cat, Sally and bird, Shortie.
Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by a brother, William “Billy’ Matthews.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Matthews Cemetery, Coward. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
