Obituary

Reverend James Liston Goude, Sr., 95, husband of the late Eunice Stewart Goude, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at his residence in Lake City. Family and friends were by his side.

Reverend Goude was born on October 4, 1928, in Pamplico, son of the late Lewington Edward Goude and Della Prosser Campbell Goude. He served in church ministry for over 70 years. His pastorates included New Zion Church of God, Outland Church of God, Clover Church of God, Conway Church of God and Paran Baptist Church. Pastoral ministry was a deep calling within his heart. Serving on the South Carolina State Council, as well as the board for The Home for Children, was an honor for him. His ministry began when he and his wife of 72 years gave their hearts to Christ. At age 20 he had a zeal for ministry. With the wise council of his local pastor, he began hosting cottage prayer meetings where many found Christ and became a part of the local congregation. Preaching the gospel on street corners and sharing the good news of salvation with those about him was always a reminder of how Christ brought redemption to his life.

Reverend Goude was pleased to be a part of the building of two new church structures and one new parsonage. You would find him leveling concrete on either site. The quality of his bar-b-que chicken as well as fried chicken was known throughout the community. His strong voice for singing continued into the later years of life. Singing the hymns acapella in many settings lifted the spirit of anyone in need. Time spent with family and friends at the School House Restaurant were especially happy events. The restaurant graciously offered him and his wife easy access to the dining area, along with great food.

Surviving are his daughter, Peggy Goude (Steve) Land of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Carisa Goude, Randolph (Tammie) Goude, Christopher (Becky) Goude, Alanna (Travis) Henry, Laura Land (Bryan) Lapinski and Jonathan (Caitlin) Land; sisters, Lila Goude Hanley and Hazel Goude Molina; daughters-in-law, Cynthia Goude and Margaret Goude; he was blessed to have many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Their visits, phone calls and letters were a blessing to him and brought him much happiness.

Reverend Goude was preceded in death by his sons, James Liston Goude, Jr. and Edward R. Goude; siblings, Edna Goude Kirby, J.W. Goude, Mazel Lee Goude McColl, Daisy Lee Goude Pope, Lois Laverne Goude, Cordell Goude, Norman Goude Campbell, Ila Mae Campbell Moulds, Wilbur Clifton Campbell and Elma Corine Campbell Parrott.
