Reverend Ray D. Barfield

Reverend Raymond D. “Ray” Barfield, 72, of Scranton, husband of the late Jeanette Spring Barfield, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at his residence.

Reverend Barfield was born on August 28, 1951, in Florence County, son of the late H.B. Barfield and Annie Faye Matthews Barfield. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served in the Vietnam Conflict.  Reverend Barfield worked for Sumter Utilities for 50 years where he was the Apprenticeship Director. He was a Church of God of Prophecy minister for over 30 years. Reverend Barfield was currently the pastor of Pleasant Grove Church of God of Prophecy and will be missed by his family, friends and congregation.

Surviving are his daughter, Sandy (Jody) Miles of Scranton; granddaughters, Traci (Bryan) Carraway of Lake City and Kasey (Drew) Sams of Chapin; grandson, Michael (Katherine) Barfield of Delaware, MD; great grandchildren, Logan Miles, Peyton Miles, Parker Carraway, Carter Carraway and Cooper Sams; brother, Bradley (Susie) Barfield of Lake City; in-laws, Jimmy & Clydie Spring and Peggy Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Reverend Barfield was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Barfield; daughter, Susan Barfield; siblings, Harold Barfield, Mickey Barfield and Peggy McKenzie; brother-in-law, Pat McKenzie.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Pleasant Grove Church of God of Prophecy, with burial to follow at Wilkes Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Carolina Funeral Home.
